Ruby/Rails Team Lead
We are bevuta IT, a Germany headquartered software company. Our team consists of tech enthusiasts and other curious people from all over Europe. Together we build and operate SaaS products like DeployBot (https://deploybot.com/), our hosted CI/CD system, or nora (https://nora-notruf.de/), the public nationwide mobile app based emergency call system in Germany. We also work forward to build further cool, new products that make lives better. Our ultimate goal is to improve the way we live and work together. In your role as Ruby/Rails Team Lead, your goal is to develop and inspire a team that combines unrivaled code quality, outstanding software architecture and efficient implementation, while still having fun getting your own hands dirty. This way you support the whole team in their daily working routines and your work benefits from immediate feedback from its skilled users. You will contribute to our own software projects like the business telephone system “hana ICT”, as well as on DeployBot. Furthermore you will play an important role in improving Open Source projects like Redmine or AlchemyCMS.
At bevuta we truly believe in working at eye level across the whole team – from interns to top management. We try to avoid cargo cult and bullshit bingo as much as possible. We value honesty, dedicated work and attention to detail.
Open source and open knowledge are really important to us. We run almost all our software ourselves, for example GitLab, Mattermost, Redmine, Zammad, Prometheus, Grafana, our mail servers and much more, all under NixOS. For some tasks, there is no adequate open source alternative available yet. Then we work with market-leading applications like Google Workspace and Figma.
Your tasks at bevuta
- Lead a small but dedicated team of Ruby developers technically and personally
- Build the fundament for critical technical decisions by actively involving in the decision making process in cooperation with technical experts from the bevuta team
- Maintain and improve existing bevuta software and actively contribute to open source software projects based on our own experiences, considering developments in the academia and good practices from other third parties
- Support and mentor your team members through high-quality, scalable engineering designs and helpful code reviews
- Continuously improve the team’s culture and working processes by constantly reflecting your team’s working habits together with the team
Your profile
- 5+ years of experience in software development with Ruby
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, preferably with first experience in team management
- Prior knowledge of the use of Git/GitLab for version control and code reviews.
- Ability to mentor and develop your team in order to create a mindset of growth, for each person individually and also for the whole team
- You are very fluent in English (level C1 or C2, but no certificate needed)
